FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the training be delivered online or face-to-face?

Training is delivered virtually as it is a nationwide project. However, if we have enough applicants from a specific area we would be open to face-to-face facilitation.

What costs are involved?
There is a nominal fee for the training which includes access to resources and a 12 month membership.
What can I do after attending the volunteer training?

You will be able to offer support and advice when conversations about sleep arise. The training will cover the basics of sleep, exploring basic sleep support strategies such as bedroom environment, good sleep routines, and sleepy foods.

Who can access the Train the Trainer training?

Organisations that work with the chosen community (e.g. SEND) and that have at least one volunteer.

What is a volunteer?

Although we recognise that many organisations/services may not have a structured volunteer/non- paid staff member, please consider whether you have anyone who contributes their time, skills or experience to your organisation on an as-needed basis.

This could be:

  • A parent ‘helper’ – supporting activities, trips, fundraising
  • Peer supporter – parent/carer who acts in a befriending capacity to another family
  • Someone sharing their experience/advice at team meeting/training opportunities
What can I do after attending the Train the Trainer training?

The volunteer package is designed to offer individuals with no previous sleep training the opportunity to learn about our behavioural approach to support those with sleep issues. It should be delivered to volunteers within your organisation, but you can also deliver to staff members too.

What will a Sleep Talker do?
The Sleep Talker role will:

  • Be a trained volunteer
  • Start conversations within their community around sleep
  • Provide a listening ear
  • Support those with sleep issues
  • Signpost to other sleep services where needed

This is an enhancement to an existing role and the volunteers you train will be primarily supported by yourself. For example, if you are an organisation providing behaviour support to children with ASD, it is most likely that you will work with children experiencing sleeping difficulties. By training your volunteers/staff as Sleep Talkers you are enhancing their knowledge and skills in this area thus providing more holistic support to that family.

Can schools access the training?

Yes. We have already begun discussions with schools and academies with active parent volunteers and believe this is an excellent way to increase our Sleep Talkers network.
